CAS Number
A CAS number, also known as a CAS registry number or CAS log number, is a unique identification number assigned by the Chemicals Service (CAS), a division of the American Chemical Society, to chemical substances. It is an important tool for retrieving information on chemicals that have multiple names. Chemical substances can be described in many different ways, such as by molecular formula, structural formula, systematic name, generic name, or trade name. However, the CAS Registry Number is unique to a single substance.
