Safety Information
(5-iodo-2-Methylphenyl)Methanol Usage And Synthesis
| Synthesis | 612833-45-1 1260242-01-0 Step 3: Synthesis of (5-iodo-2-methylphenyl)methanolTo a solution of THF (300 mL) containing ester 4 (41.0 g, 141 mmol) was slowly added lithium borohydride (2.0 M solution of THF, 212 mL). The reaction mixture was heated to reflux and stirred overnight. Upon completion of the reaction, the mixture was cooled to 0 °C and water was carefully added to quench the reaction, followed by the addition of saturated NH4Cl solution. The reaction mixture was diluted with water and extracted with EtOAc. The organic layers were combined, washed with brine, dried over anhydrous MgSO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the title compound (5-iodo-2-methylphenyl)methanol (34.0 g, 97% yield) as a white solid, which could be used in the next reaction without further purification. [M-OH]+ m/z: 231. |
