Potassium tetraborate tetrahydrate (K₂B₄O₇.4H₂O) may be employed in the preparation of puffed and dense forms of anhydrous potassium tetraborate (purity = 99.5%, bulk density = 0.4 and 0.7gcm^-3). It may be used for the preparation of saturated K₂B₄O₇ solution required for the quantification of polyamines in various biological samples by HPLC.
