In VitroFosmidomycin sodium salt is a phosphonic acid antibiotic[1][2], which is active against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria[3].
In VivoAnimals treated intraperitoneally with dosages of >10 mg/kg of fosmidomycin are apparently free of parasites. After treatment with 5 mg/kg of fosmidomycin, parasitemias are <1%. Animals treated orally with 50 or 100 mg/kg of fosmidomycin are apparently free of parasites, and parasitemias are <1% after treatment with 20 mg/kg of drug. Recrudescence is observed when the treatment is terminated after 4 days. Mice treated with 30 mg/kg of fosmidomycin over a period of 8 days are totally cured[3].
