Uses(-)-Isoproterenol hydrochloride is a non-selective beta-adrenergic agonist. Isoproterenol is used in the treatment of bradycardia; bronchodilator.
Biochem/physiol ActionsIsoproterenol hydrochloride is useful in post transplantal organ recovery. It exhibits ionotropic and chronotropic effects. With respect to donor heart recovery, isoproterenol hydrochloride decreases peripheral and systemic vascular resistance. Isoproterenol also increases the heart rate.
in vivo

(-)-Isoproterenol hydrochloride (85 mg/kg; s.c.; daily for two consecutive days) induces ventricular remodeling (VR) in rat[1].

Animal Model:180-200 g, 6-7 weeks, Healthy male Sprague Dawley rats[1]
Dosage:85 mg/kg
Administration:S.c.; daily for two consecutive days
Result:Decreased the systolic blood pressure (SBP) levels, increased LV weight index (LVWI) and heart weight index (HWI), the average cross section area markedly increased, significant increased in the levels of NT-proBNP in the myocardium.
