2,3-Dichloropropene Usage And Synthesis

Chemical Propertiesclear colorless to pink-brownish liquid
UsesIt is an important raw material and intermediate used in organic synthesis, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and dyestuff.
General DescriptionColorless to yellow liquid with an odor of chloroform. Sinks in water. Produces irritating vapor.
Air & Water ReactionsHighly flammable. Insoluble in water.
Reactivity Profile2,3-Dichloropropene is incompatible with strong oxidizers.
Health HazardINHALATION: Vapors are poisonous, painful and irritating. Headache and dizziness may occur. Overexposure may cause liver and kidney damage and even death. EYES: Irritation and lacrimation. May cause transient corneal injury. SKIN: Slight irritation, readily absorbed in toxic amounts causing headache and dizziness and other systematic symptoms. INGESTION: Acute gastrointestinal distress with pulmonary congestion and edema. CNS Depression.
Safety ProfilePoison by ingestion. Moderately toxic by inhalation and skin contact. Human mutation data reported. A severe skin irritant. A very dangerous fire hazard when exposed to heat, flame, or oxidizers. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of Cl-. See also CHLORINATED HYDROCARBONS, ALIPHATIC .
