DefinitionChEBI: Calcofluor White is an organic sodium salt. It contains a 4,4'-bis({4-anilino-6-[bis(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl}amino)stilbene-2,2'-disulfonate.
Biological ActivityThe extended molecule of Calcofluor white M2R binds to cellulose but does not enter living cells, and therefore can be used to visualize plant tissues and viable cells.It absorbs ultraviolet radiation to emit blue light and exhibits enhanced fluorescence when bound to chitin.
