NOSCAPINE HYDROCHLORIDE Usage And Synthesis
| Chemical Properties | White or almost white, crystalline powder or colourless crystals, hygroscopic. |
| Uses | topical fluoroquinolone antibiotic for acne |
| Uses | Anti-Tussive |
| Uses | Noscapine Hydrochloride is a bradykinin B and tubulin inhibitor. Anti-viral. |
| Biological Activity | Opioid alkaloid with several actions. Binds to tubulin, arresting cells in mitosis and inducing apoptosis. Also is an antagonist at bradykinin receptors (pA 2 = 6.68), inhibits carbachol-stimulated phosphoinositol turnover and enhances forskolin-stimulated increases in cAMP levels in CNS tissues. Clinically used antitussive agent. |
| Safety Profile | Poison by intravenous route.Moderately toxic by ingestion and subcutaneous routes.Mutation data reported. When heated to decomposition itemits very toxic fumes of HCl and NOx. |
| in vivo | Noscapine (300?mg/kg; oral gavage; daily; for 15 days; athymic female mice) hydrochloride treatment reduces tumor growth in mice[1]. | Animal Model: | Athymic female mice (nu/nu) (8-week-old) injected with rat C6 glioma cells[1] | | Dosage: | 300?mg/kg | | Administration: | Oral gavage; daily; for 15 days | | Result: | Revealed a significant reduction of tumor volume. |
