Safety Information
Chebulic Acid Usage And Synthesis
| Description | Chebulic acid is a phenolic compound isolated from the ripe fruits of Terminalia chebula. This compound possesses an isomer, neochebulic acid. Chebulic acid is a component of transformed ellagitannins such as chebulagic acid or chebulinic acid. Chebulic acid (CA) isolated from T. chebula, which has been reported for treating asthma, as a potent anti-oxidant resources. Exposure to ambient urban particulate matter (UPM) considered as a risk for cardiopulmonary vascular dysfunction. |
| Bioactivities | Chebulinic acid showed many bioactivities including inhibition of cancer cell growth, inhibiting the contractile responses of cardiovascular muscles, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial activities etc. In-vitro anti-cancer activity of Chebulinic acid on Colon adenocarcinoma HT-29 cancer cell lines by using MTT cell growth inhibition assay was stuied. The maximum percentage inhibition of cancer cell lines for Chebulinic acid was found to be 41.2% at a dose of 200µg/ml. Chebulinic acid extraction from Terminalia chebula plays a vital role in medicine, biotechnology and various pharmacological activities. |
| Uses | Chebulic acid can be used for the polypharmacology of metabolites of medicinal plants to target SARS-CoV-2. It can also be used as a therapeutic agent to prevent insulin sensitivity and oxidative stress induced dysfunction of beta cells for diabetes. |
| in vivo | Chebulic acid (37.5, 75 and 150 mg/kg; p.o.; once daily for 5 days) is non-toxic to the liver of male ICR mice, protects against CCL4-induced liver injury through Nrf2 signaling and reduces serum ALT and AST levels and liver injury levels, including reduces necrosis and histological improvement[5]. | Animal Model: | Wistar albino rats of ischemia-reperfusion model[1]. | | Dosage: | 25, 50 mg/kg | | Administration: | Oral gavage (p.o.) once a day for 28 days | | Result: | Reduced blood glucose, creatinine, urea nitrogen, glycated hemoglobin, proteinuria, urinary albumin excretion, glomerular filtration rate (GFR), and increased serum insulin and glycogen levels in diabetic rats. |
