GINSENOSIDE RB2 Usage And Synthesis

Chemical PropertiesFrom the roots of Panax ginseng C.A. Mey.
UsesGinsenoside Rb2 inhibits the catecholamines secretory responses activated by nicotinic stimulation and by direct membrane depolarization from isolated perfused rat adrenal medulla.
DefinitionChEBI: Ginsenoside Rb2 is a ginsenoside found in Panax ginseng that is dammarane which is substituted by hydroxy groups at the 3beta, 12beta and 20 pro-S positions, in which the hydroxy groups at positions 3 and 20 have been converted to the corresponding beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1->2)-beta-D-glucopyranoside and alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl-(1->6)-beta-D-glucopyranoside respectively, and in which a double bond has been introduced at the 24-25 position. It has a role as a plant metabolite, an antiviral agent and a hypoglycemic agent. It is a 12beta-hydroxy steroid, a beta-D-glucoside, a disaccharide derivative, a ginsenoside and a tetracyclic triterpenoid. It derives from a hydride of a dammarane.
in vivo

Ginsenoside Rb2 is an antiviral reagent to protect against rotavirus (RV) infection. When various dosages of Ginsenoside Rb2 (25 to 250 mg/kg) are administered 3, 2 or 1 days before virus challenge, treatment with this Ginsenoside at the dosage of 75 mg/kg 3 days before virus infection most effectively reduces rotavirus (RV) -induced diarrhea. In addition, consecutive administration of Ginsenoside Rb2 (75 mg/kg) 3, 2, and 1 day before virus infection is more effective than single administration on day-3. The consecutive administration of Ginsenoside Rb2 also reduces virus titers in the bowels of RV-infected mice[2].
