MOLECULAR SIEVE Usage And Synthesis
| Application | Sodium aluminum silicate is an extremely fine amorphous particle widely used in industries such as coatings, inks, plastics, rubber, leather, printing and dyeing, and papermaking. Furthermore, new applications are constantly emerging, such as in the environmental protection industry. With the continuous expansion of market demand, the production of sodium aluminum silicate is increasing year by year. |
| Chemical Properties | White amorphous fine powder or small beads, odorless and tasteless. Relative density of about 2.6, melting point 1000 ~ 1100 ℃, refractive index of about 1.54. Insoluble in water, ethanol and other organic solvents, in 80 ~ 100 ℃, partially soluble in strong acid and hydroxide base solution. The pH value of 20% slurry prepared with carbon dioxide-free water is 6.5~10.5. |
| General Description | Fine white powder. Many ordinary rocks (feldspars) are aluminosilicates. Aluminosilicates with more open three-dimensional structures than the feldspars are called zeolites. The openings in zeolites appear as polyhedral cavities connected by tunnels. Zeolites act as catalysts by absorbing small molecules in their interior cavities and holding them in proximity so that reaction among them occurs sooner. |
| Air & Water Reactions | May absorb moisture from the air. Insoluble in water. |
| Reactivity Profile | MOLECULAR SIEVE is generally unreactive. May serve as a catalyst to accelerate the rate of reaction between other substances. |
| Health Hazard | ACUTE/CHRONIC HAZARDS: Local irritant, low toxicity. |
| Flammability and Explosibility | Not classified |
| Safety Profile | An irritant to skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of Naz0. See also SILICATES and ALUMINUM COMPOUNDS. |
| Synthesis | In a reaction kettle, 120-300 mesh Al(OH)3 powder, sodium silicate aqueous solution and a small amount of NaOH catalyst were firstly added, and the molar ratio of aluminum hydroxide to sodium silicate was 0.5; and that of sodium hydroxide to aluminum hydroxide was 2.0. Heating to a temperature of 120??C and maintaining the reaction for 2 hours produced a solid precipitate of sodium aluminium monosilicate, which was filtered. Obtain sodium aluminum monosilicate solid precipitate. |
