| Description | Olaquindox is an antibacterial derivative of quinoxaline, used as a growth promoter for pigs. |
| Description | Olaquindox is an antibiotic and a swine growth regulator. In vivo, olaquindox (100 mg/kg) decreases E. coli-induced diarrhea and the number of intraepithelial lymphocytes in the ileum and increases body weight in geld piglets. Olaquindox induces bleeding, intramuscular edema, vacuolar degeneration, and deformation of renal tubules in C. carpio. It decreases mean body weight and increases the number of dead fetuses in pregnant rats when administered at a dose of 110 mg/kg and increases the number of external deformities, including bent tail, craniorachischisis, exencephaly, and anophthalmia in rat pups born to exposed pregnant mothers. Formulations containing olaquindox have been used as growth promoting agents in bovine livestock. |
| Chemical Properties | Pale Yellow Crystalline Solid |
| Uses | A growth stimulant |
| Uses | It can befound in Bayo-N-Ox and Proquindox and numerousoilier pig feed. It is a photosensitizer and forms areactive oxyziridine on exposure to light. It can alsoinduce photo allergie contact dermatitis and persistentlight reactions in pig breeders. |
| Uses | Olaquindox is a growth promotor in pig-breeding; acts as a chemotherapeutic agent prophylactically used to lower the frequency of bacterial enteritis in pigs. |
| Definition | ChEBI: Olaquindox [BAN:INN] is a quinoxaline derivative. |
| Contact allergens | Olaquindox is an antibacterial agent derivative of quinoxaline, used as a growth promoter of pigs. It can befound in Bayo-N-Ox? and Proquindox? and numerousother pig feeds. It is a photosensitizer that forms reactivephotoproducts on light exposure. It can induce photoallergiccontact dermatitis and persistent light reactions. |
